Rant - Thoughts on Madoka Magica

I just want to take some extra time here to state that this show is nothing short of amazing. Its been a hell of a long time since I saw a series that has such strong characters and even better character arcs. These character drastically change between each and every episode and they change in a way that makes sense. Every episode has been nothing short of an emotional roller coaster and if you aren't watching this show this season, do yourself a favor and catch up. Its a real damn shame no one is simu-casting this show, cause damn it its one of the best goddamn shows I've seen.

What I love about this show is that there is no real villain in the show and its left up to the viewer to decide who's to blame for all of the chaos. Is it the demonic Witches and thier Fimilers, Kyubey, or maybe the girls themselves to blame for their ratical change in behaivor?Every single outlook is possible and its a very interesting conversatoin to have with out people online.

I think its Kyubey honestly. That thing is possibly one of the creepiest and menacing figures in the whole entire show. He never revieles the entire truth about the situations that's going on, he talks down to humans and their piety problems, and he'll say the most wicked things in the show and say it with a calm and cute voice to the point in which its creepy. Every time this character is on screen I get shivers as to what he's going to do. After watching episode 7, my fears are rightfully placed and that's all I'm going to say on that.

Also Kyubey is the perfect example of the devil's advocate. In the first couple of episodes, he seemed like a creature that wanted to help make the world a better place and the only way for him to do that was to turn these characters into Magical Girls. Now with every passing episode, he's getting more and more aggressive with his offer. I even think he's putting Madoka into most of these situation just to force her into making up her mind. He's become the snake offering the fruit of Knowledge to Eve, and he's not going to take no for an answer. That's why I love this character as a villain. Kyubey is the ultimate temptation. He has the power to make any wish come true, but when you get your wish you become enslaved in this vicious cycle of death and self-preservation.

Now one thing I also love about this show is how Madoka is a spectator in everything that is going on. She gets a chance to see this world of the Magical Girls and sees just how dark and corrupted it is. I love the fact that she's still pure enough not to make the choice on becoming a Magical Girl and I hope she doesn't give into this temptation. I think that's the real purpose of the show. Not one of those we need to kill this week's monster, but to see if Madoka is strong enough to break away from temptation and become stronger than everyone else because she had the power to say, "No." Although, it raises an interesting thought, will she become cold enough to leave her friends behind in this darkness? I'm not sure, and I don't see a way for her to do so without making the ultimate sacrifice or straight up giving in. Right now the ending can go into multiple ways and I absolutely love that. I love not being able to see what's going to happen next.

Also this show is beautiful. This style is truly one of a kind and there's nothing else like it. I'll admit, I didn't like the shape of the heads at first (and I still don't) but the style is something to marvel at. Every scene has a mood and an atmosphere that's perfect for the tone of the scene. I've seen things in this show I will never see in another show and I love that. Every episode is something new and different and I wish other shows would put this much work into the animation as these guys do. The imagery is abusolutly haunting at times. That moment in episode 3 (avoiding spoilers as much as possible) was horrifing to say the less. That moment will stick with me for a long time after this show is done.

This show is just amazing and I love seeing whenever a new episode pops up. I'm in this one till the end, even though this show wants to kick my ass emotionally. So if you haven't watched this show yet, come for the amazing visuals, stay for the character arcs.
