Season Impressions Fall 2010 (final thoughts)

Well I can't sleep, and I'm sure it has something to do with me being a bit stressed out cause of this hiatus thing. But I thought maybe if I was to bring some closure to what I set out to do this Season would help me out a bit so that's what I'm going to do. So the following is going to be a written version of what the Nov. 1st episode would have been.

I'm going to do a quick run down through all of the series I reviewed this season and give my final thoughts on the series and tell you which one's I'm following personally or which one's I've given up on. So let's go through the list in the same way I reviewed them.

Pokemon: Best Wishes
Being completely honest, I had troubles following this one cause the torrent site I've been using doesn't carry this series, so I've been having to watch it on a streaming site. I tired keeping up with Pokemon, but in the end I fell behind and I'm not sure if I want to get caught back up. The thing that impressed me the most with the first two episodes of Pokemon was the fact that Pikachu was in danger of a real threat. Although after Pikachu regrained his powers in ep.2 this hasn't popped up again as a problem and went back into status quo for the Pokemon series. Although I will say the series was moving a lot faster than the series that have come before it, but its sad they aren't pushing this Zurcom story a bit more. I stopped watching after ep.5 or 6, and I don't have any plans on keeping up with this series. Although I will say this MIJMARU IS SO FUCKING CUTE! XD

Iron Man
Asides from that OTHER series, Iron Man has been the biggest disappointment of this season. While I highly praised the idea of Iron Man becoming an anime, the novelty of the idea wore off very quickly. I had a moment when I was watching episode 3, when I found myself thinking, "You know the 1994 American Iron Man series was a lot more entertaining than this one." After I thought that I decided to stop watching the series. Its not that its bad, its just that we've seen Iron Man in animated format before and honestly it was a lot better back then. This combined effort didn't do anything interesting with Iron Man that hasn't been done before. Also when you see more of the CGI Iron Man suit, the worse it looks, and that's a real shame. Cause if the suit looked just as good as the human characters, it would have made for one hell of an impressive looking show.

Bakuman
I've very much enjoyed this story. Its proving to be a very enduring story between two friends trying to make it big, and the world is against them. The story is up lifting and I still want to see these two guys make it in the world of manga. Although I will say the animation is very dry. I spend a majority of my time reading the subtitles and not really caring about what happening on screen. I think if I was to read this in a manga I would give it an A, but at the same time I can't help but wonder why this was put into anime when you aren't going to do something interesting when the characters are moving.

Panty and Stocking
I AM LOVING THIS SHOW! Yes, there is no real story going on. Yes, its insanely offensive. Yes, it boils down to bath room humor. But so what. Lighten up and relax. This show is about one thing and one thing only, having fun. Its not trying to say anything. Although, I personally think its a parody about American animation, on how we have shows like Powerpuff Girls that's kid friendly and shows like South Park where its adult humor, and yet most American viewers can't tell the difference between the two when it comes to normal anime. Its a theory I have and you don't have to share it. This show has been able to make me brust out laughing in stiches with every episode and I've even got one of my non-anime friends into the show. This show is a laugh a minute and I love it.

Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector
This one was a toughie. It felt like for everything they explained that was weird in the last episode, they present something new and weird at the end of the episode. I could kinda follow what was going on, but a new element would be introduced into the show that would just leave me confused about what was going on. The battles, again, are fine and fun to watch, but I can't say I fully enjoyed them cause I kept getting confused on who I should cheer for. For example, the Mecha Tiger and Mecha Dragon, awesome to look at, but why on Earth are they there in the first place. The whole thing just feels really poorly stapled together, and with that I've given up on it.

Psychic Decetive Yamuko
While as I'm finding out as this series goes on that its not so much a horror show, but more of a mystery with ghost in them, I'm still enjoying this one. The characters have grown on me, and the mysteries are fun to sit through. While I'm not really crazy about this one, I am still watching it and I'm glad to see whenever a new episode comes out. Although I will say this series seems like a series that'll come over hear on DVD with an English dub. I think I might actually enjoy it a bit more that way. But that's just me.

Star Driver
If you your wondering if I've changed my mind about this series since I recorded that v-log, my answer is this: I HOPE THIS SERIES FAILS AND ITS BURNED IN FIRE!!!!!!

My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute
This on the other hand is THE BEST SHOW OF THIS SEASON. I love this series and its quickly becoming one of my favorites, and I don't say that very often. The jokes are funny. The characters are rich and complex, and have great range of emotions to them. The series does an awesome job of mixing both verbal jokes and visual jokes. Everything about this series is perfect and I can not wait until this series is picked up and brought over here to America so I can own it and share it with the people I love. I'M TALKING TO YOU FUNIMATION! PICK THIS SERIES UP OR I WILL HURT YOU! Please.

The World God Only Knows
This has been a fun one to follow. Kenma continues to be a funny character and as the stakes get higher we are beginning to see that if Kenma doesn't get these women with lose souls, they'll get into some form of danger that might not necessarily kill them, but destroy their soul, leaving an empty shell. While its mostly comedy that works, the drama that's been added has been a nice touch and its nice to see something bad will happen if the hero fails.

Milky Holmes
Damn it all, I want to hate this series with every fiber of my being and I just can't do it. This series is just too funny for me to hate it. While I don't care for the four main characters or what they are trying to do, when funny things happen you'll take notice and its a laugh riot. Although with that being said the story does seem to lose focus very quickly. While some of the characters have been able to get their powers back for a short period of time, they aren't coming back permanently and the characters aren't really doing anything to get these powers back. It really does feel like the characters are simply being used to get from one joke to another, but the jokes are worth it.

Question for you. When a series is a comedy and it isn't funny, what's the point of watching it?

Samurai Girls
This show has been fun. Again like Psychic Decetive Yamuko, I'm not crazy about it, but I enjoy it whenever a new episode pops up. Its got some funny perverted humor in it, and the battles are fun to watch. The characters have grown on me a bit, and I can't help but watch this one. I'm enjoying it, but I'm not going to be singing praises of it on top of the mountains. The story is like Milky Holmes where I could care less about what going on in the dialog. Its also quickly become a hairum series too, which is something I'm not exactly fond of. But again its fun for a chuckle. The Brad Jones in me loves this series, but the Cinema Snob in me hates it.

So that's it. That's the conclusion to my look into the Fall 2010 anime TV season. I'm sorry this couldn't of been an actual episode, but again shit happens. I'm going to do my best to get a job, before the Winter 2011 TV season starts so that I can come back for more. I know, I myself enjoyed making these episode and watching these series (hell even Star Driver, it gave me something to bitch about). So I'll leave you all asking these two questions.

1. How can I improve Season Impressions and make it a better show?
2. What series would you like for me to look at next season?

2 comments:

  1. OMFG - loved the rating on Star Driver (even though still watching myself).

    1. I loved the honesty of your review and keep that going - maybe take a few happy pills though BEFORE the review (..)

    2. I have not seen anything I like yet, so not sure what to pick, ummm, maybe Chu-Bra!!
